„Žemyna” is a graphic novel inspired and based on Baltic mythology. The story revolves around the seach for Earth goddess Žemyna, mystical forest and the wonders in it. To use Baltic and Lithuanian mythology in my work motivated the desire to see more illustrated books that were based on the primordial mythology lore without the conventional and often used thematic and visual canon or characters. Since Lithuanian mythology has never been sequential and changed as the ages passed it constantly added new elements and interpreted previous ones, however despite the everchanging myths and their plotlines, the foundation, characteristics and nature of the deities essentially did not change, which were the base of the graphic novel’s concept.

The book’s plotline showcases the quest of knowledge and enlightenment, which altogether introduces worldview, motifs and characters of Baltic mythology. The main character is impartial yet inquisitive, he finds a book which leads him to a mystical forest where he learns about the secretive monuments, beings and at last, the author of the found book - Earth goddess Žemyna. She appears only at the end of the story yet she is the epicenter of it - indirectly she leads the character through the notes she has written.
